Upcoming Events Matthews Historical Foundation Plans Hometown History Community Meetings The Matthews Historical Foundation has announced a series of Community Meetings, designed to explore the history of the Matthews area. All programs are free, open to the public and will be held on the last Tuesday of each month, beginning at 7 p.m. The meetings will be held at Matthews Women's Club, 208 South Trade Street in downtown Matthews directly across from Matthews Elementary School. Upcoming programs planned in the series are: There will be no Community Meetings during November, December, and January due to the holidays. Plan now for 2009 with meetings on February 24, March 31, and April 28. Speakers will be announced at a later date. Our Annual Open House will be combined with a Garden Tour and Strawberry Festival scheduled for May 2009. Please check back for more information. All events are open to the public free of charge. Mark your calendars, plan to attend and learn what Matthews was like before the traffic, housing plans, and the population boom. | The Matthews Historical Foundation hosts an annual Open House each year in the spring. Held at the Reid House, this is a fun way to visit the historical property and meet fellow Matthews residents. Often one of our residents from long ago will stop by with stories about Matthews in years gone by. |

| Fullwood Restoration Award | |
| At the open house, the Fullwood Restoration Award is given to a homeowner in Matthews who has restored his home making a positive impact on the area. This award, which began in 2000, has been awarded 5 times. |

| Annual Dinner Party Fundraiser | |

Every year, since 1999, the MHF sponsors a Gala Dinner Party the first Monday of November. This dinner is held at Santé Restaurant, 165 North Trade Street in downtown Matthews from 6-9 p.m. The evening is full of good food, good fun and conversation. The buffet dinner, which includes a silent auction, is a major fundraiser for the Foundation.

| Tea Fundraiser February 2006 | |
| In 2006, the MHF sponsored a “Love of History” Tea on February 16. This was a high tea featuring 7 different scrumptious tea treats provided by Lady Baker’s Tea Trolley. Not only did this tea provide great food, it had a history speaker who related stories of bygone days. This tea was a fundraiser for the upkeep of the Matthews Reid House. |
